Heritage Amphora Ceramic Vase

For thousands of years, the amphora carried the treasures of the ancient world: olive oil, wine and grain traded across the Mediterranean, from Greek harbours to Roman villas. Its graceful form, a full body, narrow neck and two sturdy handles, became one of the most enduring shapes in the history of design. The Heritage Amphora honours that legacy, reinterpreting the classic vessel with a richly sculpted, contemporary surface.

The vase rises from a softly rounded base into a generous, full belly before narrowing through its shoulders toward a wide, smooth collar. Two handles extend from the shoulders to the neck, sculpted by hand into angular, branch-like forms with small projecting tips, as if shaped from weathered driftwood or old olive branches. They lend the piece a sense of balance and character, framing the silhouette with quiet strength.

The surface is the true heart of this piece. From base to shoulder, the body is wrapped in horizontal rows of hand-carved facets, each one chiselled and lifted individually so they overlap like shingles on an old rooftop, layers of thatch, the bark of a palm tree or the scales of a pinecone. The rows step gently as they climb, following the curve of the vessel and creating a rhythmic, tactile texture that catches light and shadow beautifully. Up close, every facet reveals subtle variations in angle, depth and edge, giving the surface a sense of movement that no mould could reproduce.

The glaze enhances every detail. Warm sand, wheat and ochre tones cover the raised facets, while softer cream highlights rise along their edges and darker earthy flecks settle into the recesses. The collar is finished in a smooth band of deep earth and rust, a calm, refined contrast to the textured body that draws the eye upward. The overall effect is warm, sun-weathered and timeless, like a treasured vessel recovered from an ancient Mediterranean village.

The Heritage Amphora is equally striking as a standalone sculpture or as a vessel. Display it on a console, plinth, sideboard, mantel or hallway table as a commanding focal point, or fill it with olive branches, dried wheat, pampas or sculptural stems for a beautifully grounded arrangement. Its generous form also makes it a natural anchor for a corner, entryway or living room vignette.

Care: wipe with a soft, dry cloth. As each piece is handmade, slight variations in shape, glaze and texture are natural.
