Weathered Totem Column Vase

Nature is the world's oldest sculptor. Over thousands of years, it layers sediment into stone, wears cliffs into ridges and leaves behind fossils that tell the story of time itself. The Fossil Ridge vase captures that slow, patient artistry, translating the beauty of erosion and age into a striking sculptural vessel.

The vase rises in a gently tapered, slightly irregular column, built by hand so its silhouette feels organic rather than perfect. Along one side, a series of raised horizontal ridges stack one above the other, like layers of sedimentary rock, the vertebrae of an ancient creature or the rings of weathered stone. On the opposite side, the form breaks away into a dramatic, jagged edge that rises above the rim like a fragment of driftwood or an eroded cliff face. This edge is pierced with a series of organic openings, as if hollowed by wind and water, allowing light and shadow to pass through and giving the piece a remarkable sense of depth.

The surface is where its character truly lives. A chalky bone and ivory finish is worked into a pitted, porous texture reminiscent of travertine, limestone and sea-worn coral. Toward the eroded edge, the colour deepens through warm sand and caramel into rich umber and bark brown, creating a beautiful gradient that feels like weathering in progress. Inside, a dark glaze adds contrast and depth. Every ridge, pit and hollow catches the light differently, so the vase reveals new details from every angle and at every hour of the day.

The Fossil Ridge is equally compelling as pure sculpture or as a vessel. Display it on its own as a statement object on a console, bench, sideboard or plinth, or fill it with dried branches, pampas, lunaria or sculptural stems for an elevated, gallery-style arrangement. It pairs beautifully with stacked art books, glass vessels, natural stone and linen textures.

Care: wipe with a soft, dry cloth. As each piece is handmade, slight variations in shape, glaze and texture are natural.
